OPTICAL ILLUSION TUTORIAL 1 - MOVING LINES

We are going to make an optical illusion like this in Photoshop.

Step 1:

First we'll have to make a pattern.

Open a new document 50x50 pixels and paint the first half green and the other half blue(off course you can choose some other colors, any colour looks good)(picture1).

Than select a pencil tool, zoom the object at least to 600%(CTRL+), select some grey colour (you can experiment a little beat) and draw four 1px lines around the square. Hold down the shift button, while doing it, so your lines we'll be really straight.(picture 2)

Then go do Edit => Define pattern and save the pattern you just made (picture 3).

Step2:

Now open a new document 450x250 pixels.
Select paint buckett tool, set it to pattern (select the pattern, that you made before) and fill the layer with it (picture 4).

Step 3:
Make a new layer.
Select a part of a layer 1 (as shown on the picture 5), copy it and paste it to the layer2.

Your layers pattern should now look like this (picture 6).

Make a new layer again.

Select another part of the layer 1, copy it and paste it to the layer 3 (picture 8).

Merge layers 2 and 3 together. (picture 7).

Step 4:

Make a new layer (layer 4), copy one part of layer 3 and paste it to our new layer (as shown on the picture 9 and 10).

Make another new layer (layer 5), copy another part of layer 3 and paste it to the new layer and dragit to the left, so it will be on the same position with layer 4(pictures 11 and 12).

Step 5:

Go to => Edit in Image Ready.
Your layers palette should look like this (picture 13).

In Animation window duplicate layer.
Select layer 3 and drag the image to the right like this (picture 14).

Set time delay of both layers in animation window to 1 sec.
Now tween layers (picture 16).

Your animation window should now look like this (picture 15):

Step 6:

Duplicate last layer in animation window.
In the layers palette select the layer 3 and drag the image to the right again (picture 17).

Now select layer 5 and drag it to the right too (as shown on the pictures 18 and 19).

Now tween layers 5 and 6 in animation window (picture 20).

Delete layer 9 in animation window (picture 21) and save optimised.

That's it! You've just created an optical illusion.
